Adobe has released Version 6 of its Lightroom image management and processing software. As part of Adobe’s new licensing model Lightroom is also available as part of its Creative Cloud (CC) subscription package.
This new version introduces several new features as well as a number of bug fixes and under the hood improvements to enhance your image editing experience.
The main headline additions are:
- HDR Merge – This new feature allows you to merge multiple images of different exposures to create HDR images right within Lightroom itself. Previously this would have required Photoshop or another 3rd party HDR software or plugin.
- Panorama Merge – Lightroom now offers the ability to stitch together multiple images to create stunning panoramic images.
- Face Recognition – Face recognition allows you to speed up and automate the tagging of people within your photos within your Lightroom library allowing you to more easily search and organise your photographs.
- GPU Acceleration – As Lightroom’s feature set and capabilities have increased over the years as has the size and number of photos people are using within their libraries. This has introduced the need for more processing power. With the addition of GPU Acceleration some of the workload previously required by your CPU can now be processed by your Graphics Card (GPU) helping to improve display performance and file rendering especially within the Develop module.
